Community Sponsorship is a government scheme which allows groups of volunteers in the UK to sponsor and welcome a refugee family into their community. As part of this, the volunteers will support the family to integrate into their new community, including helping them access necessities such as healthcare, education, employment, and benefits. We have worked with over 300 Community Sponsorship groups to so far welcome over 1000 refugees.
We have Community Sponsorship groups in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, who are currently in the process of applying to the Home Office to welcome a refugee family to the UK, whom they will support for a minimum of two years.
As part of this, the Community Sponsorship group must find a property which the family can rent. The Home Office criteria for housing is as below:
Minimum two years tenancy.
Rent set at an affordable rate.
Must have its own access/private entrance.
In addition, the Local Authority will inspect the property prior to a family arriving, and the local police will also check the area of the property to ensure it is suitable for a refugee family.
If you would be interested in renting your property to a refugee family, then please complete the below form. This will allow us to check if there is a local Community Sponsorship group whom we can connect you with.
The information you share with us in the form will be held by Reset for three months, after which we will delete your information from our database.
To hear directly from other landlords who have rented their properties to refugee families, you can read our interview here with a landlord in London who did exactly this.
