About this training

This training will equip your group with the confidence it needs to support the family that you will welcome in a trauma informed way. 

Developing an understanding of psychological trauma and its impacts on the brain, body and memory will support your Community Sponsorship group to understand how these issues impact the wellbeing of refugee families.

Approaching your support through a trauma-informed lens will support the development of trust, safety, collaboration and empowerment between your group and the family.

How will this course work

The course will be delivered via Zoom and will last around 2 and a half hours.

Who is this course for

This course has a wide remit and has have benefits for all group members. Everyone involved with Community Sponsorship is encouraged to take this course.

Aims of this course:

  • Identify an awareness of trauma,
  • Explore the impacts of trauma on the brain, body, & memory
  • Clarify what it means to be trauma-informed,
  • Demonstrate ways of building trust, establishing a sense of safety, and enabling choice through an empowerment approach.

 

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Gain a deeper understanding of trauma
  • Develop a clear understanding of the impacts of trauma on the brain, body and memory 
  • Build confidence in supporting the family through a trauma-informed approach
  • Learn strategies for building trust, safety, choice, collaboration and empowerment between your group and the family that you welcome.

 

The course was developed by Hannah Sansom  – Reset’s Community Building Lead. Hannah has worked in refugee protection for the past 14 years, both internationally and in the UK. Her expertise includes issues around women and girls’ protection and empowerment and everything is underpinned with a trauma-informed practice. 

Who will deliver this course

This course will be led by Hannah Sansom. 

The training has brought to the fore the needs of a family beyond the purely practical housing and everyday needs. A greater awareness of how our group interact with the family and the sensitivities to be aware of.
