We have been working to support individuals and organisations to implement methods of community-led welcome of refugees since 2018. We have now made this training available for organisations to purchase.

Offer of training sessions

Reset have been working to support individuals and organisations to implement methods of community-led welcome of refugees since 2018. To date, we have trained over 8,000 people across the UK to be prepared to welcome newcomers to their neighbourhoods.

We are commissioned by the Home Office to deliver and design the compulsory training required by all Community Sponsorship groups who welcome some of the world’s most vulnerable refugees to the UK. We have also been delivering training to prepare sponsors to welcome through the Homes for Ukraine programme.

At Reset, we understand the critical role that volunteers play in providing support and assistance to individuals and families who arrive in a new area, having been forced to leave their homes due to conflict or persecution. We are committed to empowering volunteers with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the resettlement and integration of refugees in their new communities.

All our sessions are flexible and can be tailored to the needs of your audience – most sessions can be delivered either in the form of a webinar or meeting, depending on the numbers of participants and the need. Sessions range between 60 minutes and 2 hours in length and are all delivered online on Zoom.

Trauma informed support

This session aims to help you to understand behaviour that might be connected to experiences of trauma within those that you’re hosting. We will explore what it means to be trauma informed in our support by focusing on developing an awareness of trauma, understanding the importance of building trust, a sense of safety and enabling choice through a strength-based approach.

Planning for the end of hosting

This is an interactive training session for those hosting refugees in their homes. It will help you understand what housing options your guests may have when your hosting comes to an end. It will help you to plan for the end of hosting from the very beginning. We will discuss tools and techniques to help your guests to prepare for living independently, navigating systems on their own and make informed decisions about their future.

Planning for the end of support

This is a session for volunteers and community groups supporting refugees living in their own independent accommodation. We will focus on preparing for the support and how to do this from the very start. We will look at developing Independence Plans and how to best involve those we support in the process. We will then discuss how to reduce the support we offer and how our relationship with those we support changes over time.

Gender-based violence

The session aims to identify gender-based violence (GBV) and its impacts, clarify the links between GBV and migration and demonstrate how to effectively support survivors, including how to ask about experiences of GBV, respond effectively to a disclosure and know the support options available. The session will also address practitioner wellbeing.

Empowerment, boundaries and power imbalance

In this session we will discuss adopting an empowerment approach to supporting refugees and what it means in practice. We will consider the differences between being a friend and being a supporter and consider the boundaries volunteers may need to put in place.
