Making it happen: sponsor guide

Moving to a new environment can be an unsettling experience, especially for those who have been forced to flee their homes. Community Sponsorship is a way for the whole of civil society to be directly involved in helping refugees settle in the UK, providing emotional and practical support to empower families to rebuild their lives and to become self-sufficient members of their new community.

Being a sponsor can also bring enormous benefit to the local community, through harnessing the generosity of local people, and creating new bonds between different groups to bring positive changes to people’s lives. Under the scheme, community sponsors provide families resettled to the UK under the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) and the Vulnerable Children’s Resettlement Scheme (VCRS) with integration support for one year, and accommodation for the first two years.

This document is a collection of information sheets covering a range of subjects intended to support community sponsors and groups interested in becoming a community sponsor.
