What are the requirements for sponsoring a refugee family?

Your Group must be able to fulfil certain requirements before you can apply to become community sponsors and start to resettle refugees. This is because it's important that you are able to provide resettled refugees with the highest quality support possible. The list of requirements can seem daunting at first but you will be supported by Reset and our partners to meet the necessary conditions.

There are two main requirements that you need to fulfil before you submit your application to the Home Office

  • Your group has its own charity or CIC number or has been authorised to use another organisation’s charity number, or is an organisation with expempt status
  • Your Local Authority provides written consent for you to resettle a family in the area
  • Your local police team confirm that the property you find is in a safe area for the family to live in

There are two main requirements that you will need to fulfil in order for the Home Office to approve your application

  • Your group has access to funds of £9,000
  • You will be able to find sustainable accommodation that the family can rent for a period of at least 2 years*

You can find more information about how to fulfil all of these requirements on our Training Website.

*Note that community sponsors are required to provide support to resettled refugee families for a period of 1 year with the exception of accommodation, which must be available to the resettled refugee family for at least 2 years
