Our research

“I understood that I was not choosing where to go on a holiday, but a family who could host me in the hardest period of my life.”

Ukranian guest, Homes for Ukraine scheme

We believe that research, monitoring and evaluation are essential for making evidence-based decisions that will support community-led welcome to grow and flourish. We publish our own learning and reports and also work closely with universities to produce in-depth research into community-led welcome programmes.

Homes for Ukraine Evaluation

We commissioned a report by The Research People to evaluate our Homes for Ukraine matching service from April 2022 to March 2023. One year after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, we commissioned the evaluation, to understand what has been learnt by guests, hosts, Reset and our partners about matching and how this can inform our response to future refugee crises.

The experience of resettlement through Community Sponsorship: learning from refugees

To enhance our understanding of the experiences of those being resettled through Community Sponsorship, in December we brought together a group of women who had arrived in the UK through this scheme. We then facilitated a workshop in January with welcomed refugee men who had arrived in the UK through this scheme.

Integration outcomes

Reset worked with independent consultant, Dr Jasna Magić, to create a snapshot of the integration outcomes of 15 refugee families resettled to the UK between July 2021 and December 2022 through the Community Sponsorship programme. The findings centre on four key areas in which integration takes place: health and social care, housing, employment, and social connections. The report details integration outcomes and highlights progress the refugee families have made and the barriers they have faced in the first 12 months of their resettlement.

Our advocacy work

Sponsoring a refugee family is a significant responsibility. We advocate for Community Sponsors to ensure that they are properly supported throughout their journey.

Our advocacy focuses on representing the views of Community Sponsors to the Home Office to support them in implementing the necessary operational changes.

We also represent the views of Community Sponsors to other key stakeholders, including Local Authorities, international organisations, the wider resettlement field, housing providers and financial institutions. We also use our voice to campaign on policies  affecting refugees. We are members of the  Together With Refugees coalition, campaigning for a more humane approach to people seeking protection in the UK.
